Preschool: learning through play
A wonderful place for your child to learn through play, go on adventures, have fun, and make their first friends. Toddler care is the perfect step before starting primary school. Hero kindercentra has around 27 toddler care locations across Haarlem and Spaarndam, so there is always one nearby.
Challenges
At our toddler care centres, children become familiar with the daily rhythm of activities while being encouraged to play, explore and discover. Singing songs together, building with blocks, doing puzzles, or baking sandcakes in the sandbox. Toddlers’ worlds grow every day, as they learn new things and gain new skills.
Familiar faces
At the same time, toddlers still need a sense of security and comfort. Sometimes they need a trusted adult to turn to when things feel a little overwhelming. For many children, toddler care is their first experience spending longer periods away from their parents.
That is why familiar faces are so important. We work with close-knit teams and consistent groups, giving children the stability they need. We also take time during morning drop-off, and parents are welcome to stay a little longer when needed. Each group has a maximum of 16 toddlers.
The interior of our locations
The design of our toddler care centres plays an important role in children’s development. It is often said that the environment is the “third teacher” (the first being the child and their peers, and the second the adults around them).
Children tend to run around in an empty room, while a thoughtfully designed environment encourages them to play. And play is another word for learning and development. Creating opportunities for children to grow and develop is a key part of Hero Childcare Centres’ educational vision.
Types of care
We believe childcare should fit both your child and your family’s needs. That is why we offer two different forms of toddler care.
- ‘Klaar voor de start’ programma
At most Hero toddler care locations, we use the special play-and-learn programme Uk & Puk. This programme gives extra attention to children’s language and overall development through playThis is part of the Dutch Early Childhood Education programme (VVE). Children naturally develop their Dutch language skills, learn to follow routines, and build social skills through interaction with others. Our childcare professionals have received specialised VVE training to support and stimulate children’s development.This helps ensure your child is fully prepared for the transition to primary school at the age of four.
- ‘Peuterplus’ group
Hero kindercentra offers Toddler Plus Groups at two locations in Haarlem. These groups are designed for children aged 2 to 4 who may benefit from additional support, a smaller group setting, or a more tailored approach to learning and development.We provide a familiar and supportive environment with extra attention for each child’s individual needs. By adapting both the environment and activities, we help children develop in the best possible way. Our goal is to support every child in finding the educational and care pathway that suits them best.
